It varies depending on the recycleing center that you go to . Most recycleing centers will except your count if you do not exceed more than 300 cans/bottles/class. While this takes a little more of your time it is worth it because you have to sort it anyways before you recycle and you get the 5 cents per cans/bottle/class. Cash wise there is a substantial differance.

My dad just got 70 cents a pound for our aluminum cans, in Wisconsin, of course. It depends on the state, and even the recycler. He took them to a scrap dealer, so he got a better price than he would at some little can crusher machine outside a department store. And I don't even know where any of those are anymore, the last ones went out when a certain grocery store closed.

I have been told by my local council, in South Norfolk, that aluminium foil is no longer recycled. I find this hard to believe, but if it is true then the answer is nothing. If aluminium foil is not worth recycling then presumably the rest of it is worthless too. If the foil can be recycled I would love to know as I have lots of it waiting here! PS. What is 'NJ'?

Current wholesale rates as of April 2007, per tonne;
Aluminium Cans - $1580 (loose / loose & flattened ) or $1680 (baled or densified and strapped)
About $0.50 to $0.70 a pound is realistic. Call around as rates can vary drastically.
Aluminium cans, it takes only 4% of the energy to recycle them than to produce them from raw materials. Saving 64,300 kWhs per tonne. Taking the US average kWh price across all states at 8.14c per kWh, this equates to a saving of $5234 per tonne of aluminium in energy costs and emissions of about 29 tonnes of Co2 and 1280mg of mercury.
Good luck, you can make alot of money from recycling!
