How can the Global warming alarmist keep running around yelling the sky is falling?

I was listening to the radio and ABC news radio said that so far this is the fifth coolest summer on record. They said water parks are experiencing the slowest business on record. How can the Global warming alarmist keep up with their ranting when all evidence shows just the opposite is true and that man has nothing to do with Global warming or Global cooling. The sun is the biggest factor in earth temperatures.

GW Alarmists have created a win-win situation. If it's getting warmer then it's because of GW. If it's getting cooler it's because of GW. If they (GW alarmists) are getting richer it's definitely because of "GW".

I do know that there has been no elevation in temperatures since 1998. Now does global warming exist? Of course it does. It is a natural phenomenon as the Earth doesn't stay at a constant temperature, but fluctuates through time. It has been much warmer in the past as evidenced by the fact that Greenland was once devoid of ice. It will get warmer and it will become cooler. Now does man made global warming exist? No....They scream, cry and whine that CO2 is elevating the temperatures but have you ever seen a scientific study that shows a given amount of CO2 raises temperature a certain number of degrees? No, because it doesn't. When I see a study that shows a direct correlation between CO2 levels and temperature elevation I might consider the issue as valid. There is none. Remember the scientific method basically says you have to start with a theory and be able to test it for validity and then test it once again to see if the results can be reproduced (simply put). No the man made global warming is but a hoax from the environmental wingnuts. Oh yes and don't forget to use your "special" light bulbs (that contain mercury) to combat that carbon footprint all you evironmental heathens are leaving on mother earth!

Most likely what you hear was a pick-up of an AP story issued on Friday, 7/24. The print version mentions water parks, but says nothing of a record. That story was specific to the US Midwest and East Coast. It is not global, as globally this is a hot summer.



If you did hear that water parks are experiencing a slow summer, that still would have nothing to do with either weather or climate. You might be aware that there's a bit of a recession going on. What you might not be aware of is that there is also a declining number of kids in the US, as the baby boom echo is in college and high school. Water park business is very dependent on economics and demographics, as well as weather.

Its a fact that levels of carbon dioxide have been building steadily in the atmosphere for decades and likely will continue building while we burn as much fossil fuel as we do now. However, since we are talking levels of gas in the parts per million range, the impact of this is very much a matter of projection and it remains to be proven that any global warming from this affect will not be cancelled or counteracted by some other thing that is just if not more powerful to the big system we call earth.

"Fifth coolest summer on record" is meaningless when not qualified with what region you're talking about, and it seems more than a bit premature to draw conclusions about summer anyway when it is only about one-third over with.



I'd be quite willing to bet that for the Northern Hemisphere as a whole it won't be the fifth coldest summer, or even the twentieth coldest summer. Climate scientists don't judge the threat of global warming by water park attendance.

It sounds like you're talking about your local weather. On a global scale (it is called *global* warming, you know) May 2009 was the 3rd-hottest May on record (in the past 130 years) and June 2009 was the 2nd-hottest June on record.

That's odd. When I searched the ABC News website, the term "fifth coolest summer" returned zero hits. Same for "5th coolest summer".

You need to remember this fact global warming is an average increase of Temperature not a freak cool month of a cool day. Look at glacier pictures in the last 50 years some are gone.

Geesh, well it's the hottest and driest since 1984 here in Texas. Lake levels are so low that they are finding cars reported stolen in the 80's and that was on the ABC TV news just today.



It would appear that you're just grasping at straws to rationalize your views. The sky isn't falling but just because you think people are over-reacting doesn't change the fact that global temperatures have been rising and regardless, our climate will be different.



Doesn't really matter what's happening or who's responsible, we know that the climate is changing dramatically and that affects which lands are arable, which lands are preferable to live in, where our fresh water resources will be, when will our fresh water will be available. Basically, our demographics must change to adapt to changing climates and the only way that happens is with mass migration, economic upheaval and essentially a lot of human suffering if the changes occur in a short time frame so it would behoove us to do what we can to slow the process down.



Ironic isn't it that the deniers will say the news say it's cooling without any links yet my links to those exact same claimed sources report record heat. Classic misinformation technique to misquote a source in order to borrow the legitimacy of the source but not the information.

1998 and 2001-2007 were hotter, but we've only just recovered from a cooling El Nino (and we're deep in a solar minimum, but that's a smaller effect) so it's no surprise that we're currently cooler.

If we stopped chopping our forests down looked after our water, we could cool our home from the sun and blocks that houses are getting built on are smaller less tree's are being planted less shade, and the biggest factor there are more of us and less water and tree's and food than there was 100 years ago and 200 years ago so every thing will change even in the next 100 years

From the other comments it appears that everyone is a meteorologist, and knows their stuff, however the scientific consensus is that global warming is a reality and that it is more then likely caused by the emissions of carbon dioxide.

I'll start off the bandwagon.



Well, you see it's not actually cooling overall. Yes, it's cold where you live but it's hot where you don't live. Now, being real about this, it doesn't matter because all the matters is trends. If a 10 year trend doesn't convince you then I have a 30 year trend that's pretty scary. Now the fifty year trend is a bit of an anomaly so a 150 year trend is really what's needed. And don't listen to the 1200 year trend because that's just another anomaly.



Actually, just pick any start and stop date and you can make a graph of whatever you like. It's magic.

I like what Ottawa Mike says, but I'd like to add that the 1000, 50, 25 and 30 year trends were all cherry picked, but the 1005, 20, 35 an 55 year trends are all scientific.
