Just a couple days ago, the largest hole in the ozone discoverd?

Largest one...ever. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2011/10/nature-reports-largest-ozone-hole-ever-in-northern-hemisphere/1

Still think global warming is a farce?

Sustained low temperatures (several weeks below -78C) allows more of the high-altitude nitric-acid clouds to form over the poles that is a precursor to ozone destruction in spring seasons when sun returns. The Antarctic is famous for the low temps and polar vortex, and now the Arctic has shown some propensity for longer periods of low temperatures (winter 2010-2011). Hard to tell what exactly is causing it, though the GISS folks are quick to blame, what else? climate change. The "sudden warming" convection of the stratosphere that prevents the hypercooling ozone-destructive conditions seems to be short-circuited by current conditions. OR this could be a short-term condition, and only the result of some weather. Like all the developments, we'll be sure to hear a lot about it until it "goes north" (my own term for a Global Warming model that doesn't hold true), and then it will get buried, like Argo which has shown that the oceans have cooled in the last ten years and that there is no missing heat to justify the rising tides. Oh, and that the rising tides have slowed, too.

Alright, you spotted the phenomenon. Did you do on to read why the "hole in the Ozone" expanded so much? I'll give you a hint it had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with "Global Warming".

If you go the more science based sites and read about it you will learn it was due to "extreme cold". the colder than normal temperatures changed the chemistry of the upper atmosphere destroying the Ozone. With their spring and summer, temperatures increased and the ozone will be replenished.

There were some additional forces involved as well. those same geomagnetic forces that generate the northern and southern Aurora borialis have been been outside of normal ranges and these same geomagnetic forces help to drive the Ozone molecules aways from the southern pole.

The link below gets into the scientific facts and basis for the "unprecedented Arctic ozone loss".

Global climate change, you mean.

Still not entirely convinced it's humans causing it, though. ;)

I live in Canada and we did have a heat wave, but we also experience a lot of cold, as you know. I am not convinced the world is getting much warmer... nor am I convinced that it is not natural. There have been many, many warming and cooling periods over the course of the Earth's history, millions of years before humans even existed. What caused it then? Did the dinosaurs have too much pollution?

More proof is needed. REAL proof, not Al Gore's theories, the majority of which have already been debunked.

It stated:

It said humans didn't cause it. It has nothing to do with anthropogenic global warming.

Yes I do think AGW is a farce. It is an exaggerated farce.

Note: Organic man, I get fed up with bozos that think skeptics are products of American propaganda. What have you done to educate yourself? Pretending that it is somehow informed to blame yourself for a warm sunny day is ignorant. I wasn't that gullible when I was eight years old.

I have to agree with 'Organic Man'. I can't believe all of the answers put down here denying global warming. Has anyone noticed the weather getting much worse? I live in England, UK and last winter was the coldest we had had since the 80s. The summer was cold (we haven't had a proper summer in about 6/7 yrs) and we just had a heatwave at the end of Sept/Oct (in the fall!).

The plants are all confused as in flowering (like in spring) but also changing colour (like the fall!).

Also did anyone notice all of the extreme weather that's been happening over the last decade, e.g. very powerful hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones, floods, not to mention the crazy tornado season the US had recently.

What will it take to convince you, if science will not??

Polar Ice Caps are melting at exponential rates and to prove to you that British weather has changed dramatically in the last 50 years - In the 60s we had a series of bad winters, with deep snow drifts - this was during Christmas - we never get snow at Christmas anymore! We get it after in January/February! I was born in the 90s and I don't remember hardly any white Christmases as my parents have had.

Since industrialisation, greenhouse gases have increased at an exponential rate. We are producing too much for the world to handle.

Man, that was a mouthful, sorry if i was ranting but you need to get it into your heads the real problem we face...

"The ozone hole and global warming are not the same thing, and neither is the main cause of the other."

http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/blogs/climateqa/are-the-ozone-hole-and-global-warming-related/

I assume you are the type that trusts everything NASA says so why don't you just accept the above and move on? So in answer to your question, yes I still think global warming is a farce. Pollution isn't a farce. Neither is skin cancer.

Putting up wind turbines and leaving natural gas in the ground is a farce and global warming is causing that farce.

This was not "just discovered". This happened about 6 months ago, just for what it is worth.

The Arctic hole hits its peak in March, the Antarctic in September.

A lot of corn feed, I like to go to the races and watch cars go around in circles and then go home and offer my wife to my best friend will dismiss this?

Just another case of the Republican born media machine trying to tell people its okay.

Al Gore was right.

They are wrong.

I don't dispute global warming, I dispute the idea that humans are causing it. Global temperatures are linked to solar cycles. Humans produce 3% of greenhouse gases, while nature produces the other 97%

The ozone layer depletion fraud was the warm-up act for the global warming fraud --- read all about it.

Ozone hole’ shenanigans were the warm-up act for ‘Global Warming

(and)

New Scientific Evidence Proves Ozone Depletion Theory False

It is not UV-B that causes the malignant types of skin cancer, but UV-A, which is not screened out by the ozone layer.

And if you are worried about Global Warming I highly suggest you watch this video:

**Wow Organic Man, it sounds like you really have all the answers. Thanks for stopping in to get us all squared away over here. I think its truly amazing that CO2 causes both warming and cooling. I'll tell ya, that CO2 is some amazing stuff. It's just magic.

Just one more thing. Does your mother know you are on the computer?

Did you also know that mount everest has moved 12 feet to the left due to too much human stamping...

Hundreds of millions of years ago, what is now life sustaining, namely Oxygen - was overly abundant

and Nature created or converted life forms to blend it by carbon organically.

That's now we are and our cattles, fishes, etc. hemoglobine based life.

In other worlds: what was then a poison for botanic life, pure oxygen them outhailed, justified the existence of dinosauruses.

Now we live in an age of pleasure for botanic life forms, and we need to love that pleasure, because

of the ecologic balance, oxygen we need to survive is treatened by not just earthbound industry, but space exploration , that is a science against the existence of all kind of organic life.

The idiocy of some of the answers are shocking and appalling, and they make for a good demonstration of the propaganda that is rampant in the US, which justifies climate change denial and is dangerous in practice - like how the American people let the US government get away with refusing to sign on to the Kyoto Protocol.

The national science academies of all the major industrialized countries recognize this very simple concept: greenhouse gases heat the earth (through the process of the greenhouse effect), humans have exponentially increased their production of greenhouse gases in the past 160 years, and the earth has progressively heated.

The fact that it gets colder in some places means NOTHING - climate change causes BOTH climate extremes in various parts of the world. And that so many deniers think this argument is clever is proof of how badly brainwashed and ignorant they are when it comes to climate change.

PS: Al Gore's theories? Al Gore is not a scientist - he doesn't make theories, he just educates the public about them. More blatant deception from the "science is a conspiracy" crowd.

Its not a farce. AGW is a scam with $trillions involved.
