Mostly.

This is science and what counts is the data.

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)

Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command

Here are two summaries of the mountain of data that convinced Admiral Truly, short and long.

It's (mostly) not the sun:

http://www.stopglobalwarming.org/sgw_actionitems.asp

And the first graph aboves shows that the sun is responsible for about 10% of it. When someone says it's the sun they're saying that thousands of climatologists are stupid and don't look at the solar data. That's ridiculous.

Science is quite good about exposing bad science or hoaxes:

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/ATG/polywater.html

There's a large number of people who agree that it is real and mostly caused by us, who are not liberals, environmentalists, stupid, or conceivably part of a "conspiracy". Just three examples of many:

"Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."

Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

Senator John McCain, Republican, Arizona

“DuPont believes that action is warranted, not further debate."

Charles O. Holliday, Jr., CEO, DuPont

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/home_page/329.php?nid=&id=&pnt=329&lb=hmpg1

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686 and:

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know - except maybe Newton's second law of dynamics. Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point,You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

Dr. Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

I am very skeptical about man-made global warming. But most of the skeptics are concerned with our impact on the environment, I have found the "problem" is with environmentalist. They don't seem to grasp the entire issue. Take sustained farming, I've had environmentalist tell me with a straight face that there should only be organic farming, no gmo's etc, after all it the best for the environment. Never mind that if every farm did that you would need to kill off over half the people in the world. So on one hand we need to keep care of the environment, and we need to feed everyone, so we have to be careful because if we don't keep care of the environment the crops will fail and there will be world war. EDIT The case you’re thinking about was a farmer who claimed it was from cross-pollination, the court found he knew what he was doing, that is using Monsanto’s GMO to improve his crop and not pay for the work, yes I followed the case very closely. What you haven’t heard was the cases where Monsanto was sued for contaminating a non-GMO crop they’ve won some and lost some of those cases. As far as safety, GMO have gone through more testing then any non-GMO crop, but really there are no crops in mass production that haven’t been modified, wheat, corn, potatoes, etc all have been heavily modified, the only difference is that they haven’t been tested. There are cases where using just cross-pollination, where the resulting plant could kill you, and in once case it went into production only to find out it poisoning people. On your second thought, if we went with only organic farming and no GMO's half the people in the would would die. So next time you’re at a family reunion or with a group of friends, count off everyone, 1, 2, 1, 2 etc then pick a number say 2, everyone who’s a two is now dead. Also starving people do stupid things like start wars, maybe drop a nuke or two. All it takes for a government with a nuke to say "Give us food or we'll use a nuke against your country. Right now there is plenty of food to go around, despite what the press is telling you. The problem in those countries is the government, and we've been luck that they don't have nukes otherwise who know what would happen.

With the Earth being around alot longer than humans, I doubt seriously that humans are the cause of global warming. This isn't the first or last time the Earth will heat up or cool off. It has been doing so for millenium. I do believe that burning fossil fuels and possibly the CO2 factor could be speeding up the process some, but it isn't the only cause. The sun is starting a new cycle of more powerful sun storms. This can cause the Earth and othe planets to warm up. The last cycle was only about the last 60 to 70 years of more calmer storms. It just so happens that we humans came to use more fuels and other agents that polluted our skies at this time. We cannot stop what the sun does or how it affects our planet. What we can do is insist that we find other sources of fuel and get educated. Recycle what we have and the rest is up to Mother Nature. We are just here for the ride anyway.

Just think about the all bombs dropped round the world in the last fifty years and that may give you an idea who is responsible for global warming. To give you a better idea an old fashion atom bomb dropped on Japan destroyed property for miles around. This is not a political statement ,it is a statement about global warming. What will be the human legacy for the next generation.

Earth's temperature is a cyclical thing, ranging between ice-age and tropical periods. However, the warming we are now seeing is far worse and more rapid, than has been observed in the past, both through actual observation and reading the ice layers of glaciers for their preserved history.

I am so tired of lemmings believing everything some half-assed politician without a scientific bachground tells them. You can tell these uneducated followers by the catchphrases and acronyms they use like GHC's. Try picking up a ******* science book. CO2 is not the predominant greenhouse gas. The greenhouse effect is caused by many compounds including nitrous oxide, methane, and chlouroflourocarbons. The actual predominant greenhouse "gas" though, is water vapor. While the other gases contibute more water will evaporate into the atmosphere. As more water is in the atmosphere, more cloud cover forms.

There is not one reputable physicist or chemist (the one's that publish in something other than "tabloid" science magazines like Discover or Nature) that agrees with global warming alarmism. If someone knows of one please list him. My degrees are in physics and everyone I have worked with thinks it is a joke.

I am not saying that people that believe in global warming are stupid, they are just intellectually lazy. For those "believers" that aren't lazy, here are some scientific "facts" to research.

The thermal heat island effect.

The cyclical wobble of the axis of the earth's rotation and it's effect on regional solar radiation. (Even Gore's research deals predominantly with the northen hemisphere.)

The solar cycle and it's effect on temperatue. (This al

so coincides perfectly with all temperature change throughout history)

Mann's hockeystick graph blatantly omitting known period's of global cooling and warming such as the medieval warm period and the little ice age.

Water's specific heat of fusion. This is 80 calories per gram compared to 1 calorie per gram to raise water 1 degree celsius. This makes Gore's claim that the melting of the northern glaciers by the amount that he eludes in the time frame he claims as a result of a 0.7 degree rise in temperature over the last hundred years as a result of higher atmospheric and surface temperatues a physical IMPOSSIBILITY. For it to be possible , the air and water temperatures surrounding the glaciers would need to experience a rise in temperature of 8-10 degrees celsius over the last 20 years.

The fact that times of higher CO2 levels have actually occured slightly after times of higher global temperatures. You can find the true version of his undetailed graph at the MIT atmospheric sciences department.

When responding to questions about science, don't give links to sites such as greenpeace or NASA. These groups need funding and know that the global warming threat gives them a platform.

yes it is!

it is our addiction to fossil fuels that leads us to this global warming thing...yah know!as we all know greenhouse gases(GHG) help regulates the earth's temperature..but too much GHG in the atmosphere are not helpful at all..it traps the heat ,received by the earth, to bounce back to the atmosphere, thus it warms the earth..elements or substances produced by men, like CFC, also helps in hastening the thinning of ozone layer.other thing is, continuous deforestation contributed to the climate change or global warming it is because forest serves as the carbon sink..and over population i think.:)

We are not the cause, but the human race is like a virus and we act as a really quick accelerator.

"global warming" is caused by the weather which is controlled by the sun. Humans do not control the weather and do not control global warming. It is a goverment conspiracy. Global warming is a theory not a fact.

The Earth has many problems because of man

this is undeniable ,how much we are responsible for Global warming is debateble ,But there is a definate change in Global temperatures that is affecting nature in a bad way.

this text only covers some aspects of Climate change ,mainly agriculture i.e.effects of deforestation and subsequent man made desertification

water and air polution such as caused by

industrial contamination ,the contaminating effects of the cities(the internal combustion engine) ,are other stories,

and all of these are also man made ,such as the high industrial chimneys pumping contamination into the clouds and the burning of tires, some of this polution has been found in the ice in the polar regions

there are natural cycles in the planets life

but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms

climate change is caused in great parts by desertification ,and most desertification is caused by man

the thinner ozone layer helps to speed this up.and this is caused mainly by air polution ,also as a result of mans actions

in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification and some have died as a result,

And now many animals are becoming sick because of changes in temperature ,

vital links in the food chains are disapearing affecting other species further along in the chain

90% of the feral (wild) bee population in the United States has died out.

In the Netherlands bee diversity is down 80 percent in the sites researched, and that "bee species are declining or have become extinct in Britain."

wildflowers that depend on pollination have dropped by 70 percent

we are witness to a mass exstinction ,for the first time since the dinosaurs, of the earth's estimated 10 million species, 300,000 have vanished in the past 50 years. each years, 3,000 to 30,000 species become extinct.

everything is happening so fast it is not possible to monitor things any more.

,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year

and most of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were few desserts.

collectively this planet is drying up ,

each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,

and there are less and less farmers to do it..

Arable lands and their farms are lost all over the globe. Many farmers sons abandon farming and head for the cities.

Northern China is drying up, what once were millions of food producing people, are now hungry refugees ,running for their lives from the all consuming dust storms.

This will have a great effect on world food prices when they start buying at what ever cost, to feed their people.

The farmers that are left have to feed some 70 million more people than the year before but with less topsoil.

Over the last half century,

Population growth & rising incomes have tripled world grain demand from 640 million tons to 1,855 million

In the near future the global farming community will not be able to feed every body ,food prices will continue to rise. .

RISING SEAS

The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.

this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter

Global warming could be slowed down to some extent, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,

At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where, instead of just some third world countries Source(s) here are a 100 ways to help
