do you think global warming is real or fake?

I believe it is true. As to what is causing it, volcanos or industry or people? That's another question. I do believe WE are part of the problem. Human beings themselves generate heat, but we're not going to just kill ourselves...

We need trees and other things to create an ecosystem where there is rain and clouds and other factors that would facilitate positive climate change, away from global warming.

Industry and anything that runs off gas needs to be converted into solar or eco friendly fuel sources, so we can eliminate that part of the problem. Furthermore, this needs to be rolled out on a global scale to ensure we do heal the earth.

If we do everything we can to do our part on fixing the planet, and the volcanos and other stuff still causes global warming, then maybe it is time we colonise another planet !

But I think as a short / Medium term solution a move to eco-friendly fuel / power sources, recycling, rainwater harvesting and eco friendly waste treatment would be the first steps in addressing global warming.

I believe that global warming is real because we pretty much trashed our own environment. So pretty much, businesses and companies are getting rich off of solar and battery powered cars and such. We are the ones who have to pay for the damages that was created. On another note, I hope you guys aren't feeling this way through Al Gore's documentary. First of all, he owns how many houses? Think about it, for all of his house or mansion I should say, how much energy do you think each house uses? In addition, he drives nice luxurious cars or have a limo drive him around all day. If he was sooooo concern with the global warming issues, how come he isn't taking any actions to reduce the problems that are arising from it? He's not a great advocate for the cause.

I think it is real. I realize that the environment naturally warms and cools and I think, based on what I've read, that while the earth is naturally warming that due to human activity we are increasing what otherwise would have been just a slight warming. In the long run I think that changes we make will not only be helpful to the earth, but also helpful to our health and to the efficiency of our businesses and industries. Afterall it was industry that first began "reuse" and "recycle" processes in their own plants by recycling materials and then reusing them and putting them back through the process to then make items they could sell (thus they ended up not losing any money in unnecessary waste). With most of the ways we can help to reduce our effects of global warming on the earth it seems that once again not only does the earth benefit, but we also benefit. Government may not be effective in dealing with the issue, but individuals, organizations, and businesses have already been working for awhile. Each for different reasons. Some for bettering the enviroment, some for better human health, and some to increase their productivity while at the same time decreasing their waste and thus being more efficient.

That's my own humble opinion.

Global warming is real, it's just not caused by humans. During inter-glacial periods (which we are in) the earth gets warmer. There is NOTHING anyone can do about it, it's cyclic and and has been going on for billions of years.

Global Climate change courtesy of the pope of Eco-Marxist Al Gore does not hold water in light or real science. Gore "Say's the debate is over" 17,000+ climate scientists says it is NOT.

On this website is a compendium of resources that do have valid facts.

http://www.junkscience.com

The only fact that is correct is that the earth's temperature has risen by 7/10s of one percent over the last century. That is the of validity for Al Gore and IPCC report.

I'd ask home many of the posters have either studied climate sciences or even read the background material for the IPCC report. My guess is that 1 in 5 have read, 1 in 100 may understand it.

When I hear the word "Believe" it means one thing. Religion.
2007-05-17 12:55:44 UTC
Oh I think it's real, but I believe that global warming is not caused by humans. I think (from reading the latest data from NASA) that the planet is actually being warmed by the sun. *GASP* What a concept! New high resolution images from the sun, show increases solar activity on the sun's surface and it shows that Mars is also warming. Last time I checked, there weren't any cars there...unless the aliens are invisible...to make any carbon output. Why is the Government so one-minded? Why aren't they open to any suggestions? Nothing is proven so why are they acting like it is? They almost act like it's a religion. Good scientists should have open minds and want to hear all angles of the story. Unless of course you have a political agenda in mind and then its FINE to shut the opposition up, right?

I don't *think* global warming is real or fake. The fact is that global warming exists - it is real. It's been measured.

Now you can ask if humans caused or contributed to global warming. That would be a valid question, because there's some debate about it. Over 90% of experts believe that the majority of global warming is caused by humans. It's about as close to a concensus as you're going to get in science.

To summarize:

Is global warming real? Absolutely.

Have humans contributed to it? Absolutely.

Have humans caused the majority of the recent global warming? Probably.

Read the report from the United Nations from February of this year:

http://environment.about.com/od/globalwarming/a/ipcc_report.htm

What do you think?

Not only is there an overwhelming agreement that is is occuring, but the consequences in not doing something about it are so severe that even if it was only 50/50 you should still err on the side of caution. Especially when it deals with the only place we all have to live.

To not understand that humans are causing global warming, is ignorance of facts that are right in front of all of us. People that say it doesn't exist are using their disapproval of Al Gore as a crutch.
2007-05-17 12:26:28 UTC
I believe that global warming is happening.

I doubt that humans are the sole or even major cause.

It doesn't account for the fact that the temperature trend has been going up for the last 12,000 years, since the end of the last Ice Age.

It doesn't account for the fact that many planets (including Jupiter and Pluto) are also getting warmer. Is Klaatu driving an SUV? If you don't know who Klaatu is, then watch the classic S-F movie, "The Day the Earth Stood Still".

It doesn't account for the fact that the same community of alarmist were warning us about the next ice age as recently as the 1970's.

I think it's real. I trust the IPCC, over 1000 scientists as I recall worked on it and it's findings, so that's a lot more people who are a lot smarted than me, I'm going to trust them on this one.

I believe it's real and is largely caused by human activities, just to what extent is hard to say but it's upwards of 80%.

This isn't based on what I've read in the media, films, TV or anything - this is from 23 years of my own studies and research.

When I was a child, we always colored the snow with leftover Easter egg dye.

Now it's 80 in March.

We always made sure our Halloween costumes would hide our long johns and we would pray it didn't snow before the big night.

Now we're lucky if it snows before Christmas.

I'm not a scientist but I don't think you need to be one to see the effects of too d#mn many people on the planet.

Real..of course. Just look at the changes in seasons. Winter is shorter, summer is longer and starts sooner. All the wierd storms we are getting. Heavy snow fall in April and May, strong intense storms in the summer. Something has to up because things just aren't what they used to be.

You gotta love they way the answers to this question simply spit back what the mindless talking heads have been saying.

First, yes, global warming is taking palce.

No, it is not caused by humans

Yes, humans contribute (to a very small degree), but so do all other carbon-based life forms!

No, it can not be stopped (nor should it!)

Let nature take its course. We need to just adapt, that's all.

just for fun i asked a question in polls and surveys and again in religion

who thought Global warming was a lie ,and who was religious ,

granted many people believed in God and also believed in climate change ,

but

the fact emerged that ALL of the people who denied Global warming ,who said it was a hoax ,were without any exceptions ,religious

FACT OR FICTION

many North Americans are used to fiction and they feel more comfortable with fairytales instead of the truth,

Many blindly believe that our fate is in Gods hands ,and their focus is on the beautifull heaven that awaits ,they are not to concerned with the world their children will inherrit

there may come a time that for the sake of our survival the two views will be seperated in to Enemies and friends of the planet

World leaders are not concerned with the well being of the masses ,on the contrary .it was stated at a conference in Copenhagen,in 1998,by An American statesman , that the Agenda demanded a decrease in the world population of 60%,and you cannot achieve this if you start saving everybody.

scientists who work for politicians ,get paid by these politicians and they have downplayed the facts because solutions are expensive and means change

and change effects many peoples incomes, and upsets profit margins,so most of the world is kept in the dark of the real things that are going on.for political and economic reasons

HOWEVER CLIMATE CHANGE IS FACT FOR MILLIONS

Global warming is a very complex collection of many effects

this text only covers some aspects of global warming mainly man made desertification

industrial contamination ,the contaminating effects of the cities ,is another story

there are natural cycles in the planets life

but mans existance has its effects, and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms

in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification and some have died as a result

in china, thousands of what used to be farmers are running for their lives from the dust storms that have burried their towns and turned their lands into dessert,

,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year

and many of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were very few desserts.

collectively this planet is drying up because of bad farming practices like, over grazing and fertilizers,

each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,

and there are less and less farmers to do it..

and there are 70 million more peole every year that have to eat and drink and wash

who are overpumping deep carbon aquifiers

who are plowing more and more unstable lands because they have lost so many million hectares to desertification ,

because of bad farming practises ,such as using fertilizers and heavy machinary or over grazing

RISING SEAS

The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.

this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter.

We have injured the earth, the way we have injured our bodies. Our sea is very sick, too acidic, just as our stomachs are. The air is thick with pollution, just as we purposefully inhale filth into ourselves and our own air. The underground water reserve is dangerously low, as our bodies are dehydrated from consumption of sodas and coffees and teas. The same sickness' the people suffer, are directly reflected in our Eco-system, if one but looks at the earth as a living body, and not just at a rock in space twirling on an axis. Copy nature in how you eat, and then think about all you save the earth from suffering with this one natural step. Health and Well Being naturally become.

Well, ARE YOU KIDDING?!!? IT'S REAL, OF COURSE!!!!!!!!

Who doesn't think so?

As you will notice in a matter of time, it will become extremely hot in areas. And, If you live in Long Island City, you would have noticed that in the middle of April, it has snowed. And how so fast it has warmed up. You may have also noticed (once again, if you live in L.I.C) that it's freezing in the morning, and very hot afternoon, than back to being cool. Obviously caused by global warming.

So I've just proved global warming is no practical joke. Who wouldn't believe in it?

If you still haven't gotten my point, GLOBAL WARMING IS DEFINITELY REAL (duh!)!!!!!!

Absolutely real, if you don't want to believe or listen to what the politicans are saying thats fine, all you have to do is look around. Think about the significant weather changes in your area over the past 10ys, think of all of the devistating tornados and hurricanes..... they are much more frequent now and much more violent than they used to be.

The fact that temperatures on our planet are rising, thus demonstrating a "global warming" characteristic, is something that is not debateable as we look at the last 100 years.

What is in debate (or, I should say, what some individuals refute), is whether or not human behavior and greenhouse gas emissions are responsible for the change in temperatures. Many folks have begun to cling to the notion that the global increase in temperatures is a "natural" change in temperature that is occuring as part of natural fluctuations.

It is true that over the course of our planet's history, there have been global temperature increases and decreases, and this fact is what some base their arguments upon, along with some other scientific "facts." However, the issues that appear to be central to this debate, the effect of "greenhouse gasses," vehicle emissions, and the annihilation of rain-forest that is important to the planet's natural procession of these gasses in the atmosphere, are generally avoided by the individuals who refute the "theory of global warming."

A majority of scientists who study the effects of human behavior on such things as the atmosphere, and global temperatures concur that indeed "Global Warming," or "Climate Change" are occuring and are the result of continued human behaviors that cause damage to the natural functioning of the atmospheric gasses and the environment (when not tread on by humans). The effect of vehicle emissions on the atmosphere is evident when one looks closely at where holes in the ozone exist, and where emissions are highest. The fact that rainforests remove greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere is not debateable, and thus the continual assault on our planet's rainforests is quickly creating additional problems for the balance of our atmospheric gasses--- affecting the temperature of the Earth. Perhaps the biggest culprit of environmental damage are Corporations interested in profit over environmental responsibility. These organizations who pander to their "bottom line" release HUGE amounts of gaseous waste into our atmosphere daily that are very clearly affecting the quality of air and the ozone and are a primary culprit in the current temperature trend.

Many who fear the impact of economic adjustment to the "Global Warming" or "Climate Change" issue will continue to refute the scientific evidence in an effort to persuade policy, maintain their habits, or simply because they hate change. However, when all of the evidence is thoroughly considered, it appears quite clear that indeed, human behavior as a whole is affecting the atmosphere of the planet, leading to increased global temperatures and ultimately gradual climate change.

Those who argue global warming "is not happening" generally fail to offer any logical alternative theory for why temperatures are rising other than "it is a natural occurrence." I ask those individuals, "please explain in scientific terms why this natural phenomenon is occuring?" Is it coincidental that many of these same individuals refute the theory of evolution?

Some will certainly continue to live in denial of reality, but those who closely evaluate facts largely agree climate change is real.

I think it's real as scientists have been talking about it for a long time. I also think that it's being politically overkilled to distract us from something else, or to make us change our ways, which is not a bad thing really.

I think it's already happening! Haven't you noticed the change in climate? The earth is getting hotter and hotter. The ice has already started melting in the north pole, which means the ocean is rising and the coastal lands will disapear. More earthquakes, tsunamis, natural disasters.

CO2 is not causing the globe to warm the opposite is true, the warming is increasing the atmospheric CO2. When the world heats it gradually increases the temperature of the oceans which serve as the largest CO2 sink. As the oceans heat up they release CO2 which is stored in them. The information comes from the same data Al Gore uses, the temperature always goes up before the concentration of CO2 goes up.

http://www.lavoisier.com.au/papers/articles/ninelieslaunch.pdf#search=%22vostok%20figure%20125%22

This is the entire record of temperature verses CO2 record. This is the same data used by Al Gore but anyone with a fifth grade education can see that temperature rises before CO2:

http://vortex.plymouth.edu/atmosphere/IceCores1.gif

The global warming crowd tends to hind this graph, they will only show graphs of the last 20 or so years in which CO2 appears to cause a temperature increase. However when you look at the full data set you see that the current warming trend is not the result of CO2, CO2 rises after temperature. The global warming crowd uses the zoomed in graph to mislead you also they tend to use thick lines on the graph so you can’t make out what rises first. As you can see the temperature rises first and then CO2 starts to skyrocket, that’s why graphs of only 20 years seem to show CO2 leading temperature.

CO2 makes up only .03% of our atmosphere. Water vapor, another greenhouse gas, makes up 1-4% of our atmosphere, this gas is acknowledged to be the main greenhouse gas. All human activities combined contribute only 6 Gigatons of CO2 to the atmosphere each year. Animals, through respiration, decomposition, etc contribute 150 Gigatons of CO2 to the atmosphere. So humans contribute only a small amount of CO2 to the atmosphere which is already in very small concentrations in the atmosphere.

http://oco.jpl.nasa.gov/science.html This is where my data came from, it is an interesting site, it displays the same graphics as Al Gore in his movie but it tells how low the human contribution is. So Al Gore is using the same data but coming to a different conclusion, who do you want to believe a politician with no scientific training or the NASA CO2 laboratory, a group of scientists who spend their entire careers studying CO2.

We know the greenhouse effect is real it is a necessary effect to keep our planet at a habitable temperature. However if our current warming is due to greenhouse gasses it would cause warming in the troposphere , but the troposphere is actually getting cooler.

http://wwwghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/temperature/. That points to other explanations to our current warming.

So what is causing our current warming, it is the sun.

http://web.dmi.dk/solar-terrestrial/space_weather/

http://www.aip.org/enews/physnews/2003/split/642-2.html

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060926_solar_activity.html

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2003/17jan_solcon.htm

http://www.globalwarming.org/article.php?uid=900

The fact that only the earth’s surface is warming points to direct heating from the sun rather than heating due to greenhouse gasses. Also other planets in our solar system are warming pointing to a common cause of warming, that common cause being the sun.

http://www.nasa.gov/vision/universe/solarsystem/mgs-092005-images.html

Another theory is that ocean currents play a role

http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2000-03/UoCS-Nrol-1903100.php

The global warming crowd says our glaciers are melting and animals will suffer this is another false claim.

http://www.co2science.org/scripts/CO2ScienceB2C/articles/V8/N46/EDIT.jsp

http://www.nationalcenter.org/NPA235.html

http://www.worldclimatereport.com/

The global warming crowd also insists our seas are rising due to global warming, however this is not entirely correct. Seas in certain areas are rising, there is no global sea rise. The seas have been rising ever since the last ice age: http://globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Image:Holocene_Sea_Level_png

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Post-Glacial_Sea_Level.png

These two sources show that sea level increase now has actually leveled off from a very steep rise for the past 20 thousand years. For proof of this look here:

http://www.climateark.org/articles/1999/markhotd.htm

A mark left by Sir James Clark Ross, an Antarctic explorer, in 1841 is still visible. Not only that but the mark was placed in 1841 to show how high the sea was, not only is the mark visible it is 30cm above current sea levels. Now it is possible that the mark was placed at high tide and the picture taken at low, but even then the mark would still be above current sea levels. The seas have risen dramatically over the past thousand years not due in any part to us. If you want proof of that take a look at one of the dozens of ancient underwater cities that spot the globe. When these cities were built they were on land now they are deep underwater: http://www.abc.net.au/foreign/content/2004/s1107203.htm

This shows a dramatic increase in sea level during human time but long before the world became industrialized.

The global warming crowd also claims a scientific consensus on the issue, this is wrong in two ways. One, there is no consensus, this is a false claim to make you believe in global warming by suppressing the opposition. http://www.oism.org/pproject/s33p36.htm

Also stating new research many prominent scientists have reversed their opinions on the legitimacy of man-made global warming.

http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Files.View&FileStore_id=c5e16731-3c64-481c-9a36-d702baea2a42

Second, even if there was a consensus it would mean nothing, science is not politics, you don’t vote on theories to determine their legitimacy.

Here’s 21 pages of websites that disagree with global warming.

http://www.climatechangedebate.org/documents/CCD_read.pdf

The thought that the only scientists who disagree with global warming are paid by oil companies is simply a stupid statement with no reality. This is the most illogical argument by people in support of global warming. Aside from being completely false it begs another question: Who pays global warming supporters? The answer is big environmental agencies that make millions off of global warming each year by teaching, publishing books, and selling environmentally clean products.

The IPCC is the main supporter of global warming, their statements are defended blindly by people who don’t want to admit that global warming is not real. People will claim that they took into account natural sources of CO2, they didn’t. Take a look for yourself:

http://www.ipcc.ch/activity/srccs/index.htm. That is the latest IPCC report, read the entire report, do a search of the documents, there is absolutely no mention of natural sources of CO2. The natural sources have been completely ignored. Also people will claim that the IPCC took the sun into account in their report, this is not entirely correct, while the sun is mentioned the report it’s effects have not been accurately represented.

http://www.john-daly.com/forcing/moderr.htm. The IPCC did not take into account the Svensmark factor. This would greatly reduce the effect of solar radiation on the earth. Look back up to the solar resources to see the effect of the sun correctly represented.

Also allegations have been by IPCC scientists who disagreed with the IPCC statements. They say that their research was censored or taken out of the IPCC report. This is not the first time the IPCC has lied, they forged the famous “hockey stick” graph, which later resulted in a reissuing of the IPCC report.

Here’s another source that disagrees with the IPCC: http://rpc.senate.gov/_files/Sept1004GlobalWarmingPG.pdf

And another: http://www.sepp.org/Archive/NewSEPP/ipccreview.htm

And another: http://www.john-daly.com/guests/un_ipcc.htm

Quotes form politicians, CEO’s, and others are not proof of global warming, they issue these statements to get votes and customers. Scientists are able to get published and get time on the media by supporting global warming. The IPCC continually lies and misrepresents data so they keep their jobs.

In regards to the precautionary principle that says we can only help if we switch over to alternative energy, this idea is not correct. While this may seem legitimate it only helps the first world, third world countries can not afford to switch to the more expensive energy options. Also the US currently spends 4 billion dollars a year on global warming research which could be better spent on research for disease or to fight poverty. For an excellent example of how the precautionary principle is harmful you do not need to look further than DDT. This pesticide was cheap and incredibly effective but it was banned because of it harmful effects on egg shells. Now thousands of people die every year in third world countries because of malaria, a disease that could be easily controlled with DDT.

I hope anyone who believes in global warming they will take a look at the resources I provided. These resources should convince you that global warming is not man-made, it is caused by cycles in the earths climate. If you are not convinced I hope you at least take a new look at global warming as an unproven idea. Remember that global warming is big business for anyone who aligns themselves with it.

I could not go this entire post without mentioning global cooling.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_cooling

http://www.michaelkubacki.com/cooling.htm

In the 1970’s it was claimed that there was a consensus on the fact that the world was headed into an ice age. We have seen once before how damaging a false claim about our climate change can be to our world. Most of the global warming crowd does not want you to know about this scare because it is so similar to the scare today.
