Question:
Global Warming a fairy tale ?
2007-10-27 10:46:14 UTC
What is your take on this international crisis. I still
think myself, that it is a problem. Excessive heat,
heavy rains, extreme drought conditions, louder
than normal thunder, sharp lightning, acid rain.
It does exist. More people are getting struck by
lightning than ever before.... Droughts are killing
everything fast. And not to mention the 2005
hurricane season, in the US. Incredible to say the
least. I word, KATRINA. Also that sunami back
in 2004 ! Over 200,000 dead. Astounding for a
modern day world ! What do you think ? A
fairy tale, or not ? Best answer wins.

What we know: Blacktop and buildings heat cities; Air pollution causes lung disease and deforestation (causing more destruction -duststorms, hurricanes/cyclones and increased deforestation) heating earth surface; fires cause mud slides, deforestation and pollution-heating surface temperatures; CFC's destroy the ozone layer raising skin cancer rates and killing off endanger species and increased surface temperatures; lighting produces ozone near the surface and raises air pollution levels-more heating, the suns increased magnetic field are causing increases in earthquakes (more distruction), volcanoes (wow), sun spots and more heating...But most of this is in our control: We need to fix it!

Not a fairy tale, just a hyped issue for political gain. So far, there has been no scientific evidence which points toward man made global warming. Here is an excellent site which goes through much of the data in an easy to understand method.

As for your concern about natural occurances, much of this has nothing to do with GW. The weather is not more violent or extreme now tha nit has been in the past. What has increased is ur population density, so more of these events are documented. Fifty years ago, a minor storm in the middle of the Atlantic was never mentioned. Now, they track it even if it never comes within 1000 miles of a shore. As for Katrina, that was a failure to plan, not an "intense" storm. When it made land fall, it was a class 3 hurricane, not a class 5. The damage was due to inept government officials planning for this type of storm in an area built below sea level. Droughts and floods may be worse only because of population increase (especially along the shore). A given area has only so much water. More people move there, they use more water. The rains do not increase to expand the supply. It stays the same. higher water use, same supply, equals perceived drought. As for Tsunami, not even the most die hard GW fanatic would try to link that to GW. It was caused by an underwater earthquake.

Disasters have always occurred, the big difference is that there are 6 billion people on this planet. When a natural disaster occurs, it will naturally have a larger impact on humanity, simply because there are more of us. The Katrina disaster had been predicted for many years, any city below sea level in the path of major hurricane activity will eventually find itself in dire straits, unless it remains vigilant in maintenance efforts to combat storm surge. As far as the tsunami goes, the Atlantic coast of America, the Pacific coast of America will see a tsunami one day, it is not if, it is when.

On a more positive note, think about the technology we have, such as hurricane warnings, tornado warnings and severe weather forecast. Imagine how many lives are saved every year by knowledge learned from the very disasters that you are referring to. Just a mere 100 years ago, a category 5 hurricane could slam into any coastal region with little or no warning, with catastrophic loss of life.

I don't think it is much of a fairy tale but a crude reality. Although I haven't experienced anything different myself besides some hotter summer days. There have always been devastating natural disasters so it isn't unusual, but the whole stronger hurricane thing could be because of global warming which makes a lot of sense since hurricanes arise from heath and winds. I think once the sea level rises because of the ice melt up north we are gonna have floatings that are gonna make most believe in this "fairy tale." Right now everyone takes it for granted since hurricanes and lighting are common but cities under water aren't normal so I guess people are waiting for a tragedy or the abnormal to happen in order to change their life styles.

The Earth has had ice a protracted time, they have been cooling sessions, between them have been warming sessions. This has been going on for all of Earth’s 4 billion years. This all took place earlier any of the widespread-day got here into being and could proceed while we are long previous. The Earth is going by way of a pole shift proper now. A pole shift is while the magnetic poles change polarities. for the time of pole shifts the magnetosphere is weaker and extra of the sunlight’s rays strike the Earth, this motives extra suitable heating of the Earths floor, and makes worldwide warming extra mentioned. those are organic cycles of the Earth. We puny stupid human beings can not extra supply up or perhaps cut back a organic cycle of the Earth, than the guy interior the moon. it truly is 9th grade technology, and possible think of that scientists and politicians could be extra proper knowledgeable, even with the undeniable fact that it type of feels that this no longer so, and that they could bear in ideas 9th grade technology classification too. this could could be yet another smoke and mirrors propaganda campaign to conceal our governments lies and con video games. there are an excellent type of conspiracies working rampant it’s problematic to inform that are actual and that are in basic terms basic stupidity. the assumption we are able to offer up worldwide warming IS stupidity at it’s maximum type.

No, it's not a fairytale, just like the ice age wasn't. Too assume that all of these natural events are the result of global warming, well that is kind of a stretch. This last summer where I live it was warmer than usual, but the winter was colder as well. Last summer it was perfect and a little bit on the cooler side. Was it all a result of global warming? I don't know, but I do know that there are people who are on this planet, that wold love the modern day essentials that most of us in the industrialized nations have. Such as electricity and home heating and such, but the presidents or terrorists of their nations are allowing global warming enthusiasts to reign, and makes it impossible to improve their lives. More women are dying of lung cancer, because they live in huts and can cook only by fire and they breathe most of the smoke in. Clinics have to make a choice between keeping medicine cool or have lights because they only have solar panels, and it doesn't have enough juice to keep both going. It's a sad state and infuriating to me that we allow other human beings such inhumane treatment, but I guess I am not as smart as some people of the world, and that is what really matters.

Well a lot of that you mention could be just more people living in more places. I don't see how you can tie seismic events(04 tsunami) to global warming at all.

If you check some sources like the one I list you may be inclined to believe any increase in lightning strike death or injury can be attributed to more people out enjoying recreational activity, golfing boating etc. No scientific evidence that Katrina was caused by GW or that there is an increase in severity or number. The last two years have been shall we say duds for any GW prediction.

Tsunami? That is cause by a large earth quake. You can't really blame that on global warming.

More variation and weather extremes (more intense droughts, more flooding, more hot and cold spells, storms and such) are in line with what is predicted (yes more cold - AVERAGE temperature will increase, but extremes on BOTH ends are more likely). The increases extremes are may be the most difficult part of the problem to get a handle on. It is no fairy tale.

the global warning I would believe it existed if the government and private companies stopped trying to make money out of it.

the silly idea that ppl can excuse themselves by travelling by air and then calculating how much carbon they are responsible for and then paying some dimwit to plant trees at a cost of ten pounds a tree so the conscience is clear is one instance of the world going mad.

and then the government charging everybody passenger tax on aircraft what happens to the money I have yet to see the government do anything meaningful with it.

GLOBAL WARMING IS A BIGGER SCAM THAN ANYTHING THAT CAME OUT OF NIGERIA AND BELIEVE ME SOME SCAMS FROM NIGERIA WERE AND STILL ARE VERY CONVINCING

global warming in my opinion does not exist in the form the we are led to believe it may be happening but it is a natural event in the evolution of the earth that as occurred before and nature will take care of it in its own way.

we all know the story of KING CANUTE this is very much the same nothing we do can stop it we should be finding a way to live with it. it is a scam

"It's the end of the world as we know it... it's the end of the world as we know it... it's the end of the world as we know it!!! And I feel F-iiiii-NE!"

lol

But to REALLY answer your question! OF COURSE GLOBAL WARMING IS REAL loooooooooooook AROUND YOU! cant you see what we've done to ourselves AND the planet? Do you think we were realy meant to cover up all the grass with cement and destroy all the green things that not only reproduce CO2 so we can BREATHE, but cool our atmosphere and provide us with the NUTRITION that we need and can NOT get anywhere else???

But no, we'd all rather live in dark dirty citys and eat fake food and then take synthetic supplements and then go to this room and all run on treadmills instead of GO OUTSIDE and enjoy naure and live in HARMONY with the Earth! LIke things were meant to be!

Humans are a parasite on Planet Earth and we were meant to live in harmony with each other because one can not SURVIVE with out the other! But NOW we all think we're god! and we are going to destroy our loved one's, our children, our habitat and ourselves.

We are living in strange times. One exceptionally warm winter is enough--irrespective of the fact that in the course of the twentieth century the global temperature increased only by 0.6 percent--for the environmentalists and their followers to suggest radical measures to do something about the weather, and to do it right now.

Rational and freedom-loving people have to respond. The dictates of political correctness are strict and only one permitted truth, not for the first time in human history, is imposed on us. Everything else is denounced.

NewsAccording to the new data published by NASA, 1998 is no longer the hottest year ever. 1934 is.

Four of the top 10 years of US CONUS high temperature deviations are now from the 1930s: 1934, 1931, 1938 and 1939, while only 3 of the top 10 are from the last 10 years (1998, 2006, 1999). Several years (2000, 2002, 2003, 2004) fell well down the leaderboard, behind even 1900. (World rankings of temperature are calculated separately.)

Inaccuracies in Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth

The decision by the government to distribute Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth has been the subject of a legal action by New Party member Stewart Dimmock. Although a full ruling has yet to be given, the Court found that the film was misleading in 11 respects and that the Guidance Notes drafted by the Education Secretary’s advisors served only to exacerbate the political propaganda in the film.

In order for the film to be shown, the Government must first amend their Guidance Notes to Teachers to make clear that 1.) The Film is a political work and promotes only one side of the argument. 2.) If teachers present the Film without making this plain they may be in breach of section 406 of the Education Act 1996 and guilty of political indoctrination. 3.) Eleven inaccuracies have to be specifically drawn to the attention of school children.

The inaccuracies are:

· The film claims that melting snows on Mount Kilimanjaro evidence global warming. The Government’s expert was forced to concede that this is not correct.

· The film suggests that evidence from ice cores proves that rising CO2 causes temperature increases over 650,000 years. The Court found that the film was misleading: over that period the rises in CO2 lagged behind the temperature rises by 800-2000 years.

· The film uses emotive images of Hurricane Katrina and suggests that this has been caused by global warming. The Government’s expert had to accept that it was “not possible” to attribute one-off events to global warming.

· The film shows the drying up of Lake Chad and claims that this was caused by global warming. The Government’s expert had to accept that this was not the case.

· The film claims that a study showed that polar bears had drowned due to disappearing arctic ice. It turned out that Mr. Gore had misread the study: in fact four polar bears drowned and this was because of a particularly violent storm.

· The film threatens that global warming could stop the Gulf Stream throwing Europe into an ice age: the Claimant’s evidence was that this was a scientific impossibility.

· The film blames global warming for species losses including coral reef bleaching. The Government could not find any evidence to support this claim.

· The film suggests that the Greenland ice covering could melt causing sea levels to rise dangerously. The evidence is that Greenland will not melt for millennia.

· The film suggests that the Antarctic ice covering is melting; the evidence was that it is in fact increasing.

· The film suggests that sea levels could rise by 7m causing the displacement of millions of people. In fact the evidence is that sea levels are expected to rise by about 40cm over the next hundred years and that there is no such threat of massive migration.

· The film claims that rising sea levels has caused the evacuation of certain Pacific islands to New Zealand. The Government are unable to substantiate this and the Court observed that this appears to be a false claim.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Al Gore JET do you agree Al needs to drive a bicycle instead of a Jet his power bill is $3,000 a month for 1 of his houses

Step it UP We want a carbon Tax,Carbon tax on internet, it would increase gas $8.00 a gallon increase food and goods because of shipping cost .and a increase in electric price ,Its a problem lets fix it by Shut off all electric 6 days a week, only turn water on city for 1 hour a day, We have to SAVE the EARTH ,ride bikes outlaw driving except politicians, 1 gallon of gas a day , mandatory jail think live green ! EU Carbon

90% of France runs on Nuclear .SO the ANSWER to YOUR QUESTION IS THEY WANT a DODD. that means trickle down to you $8.00 a gallon Gas Higher food prices TRUCKS deliver food run on FUEL,higher electric they will build NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS its a low carbon foot print .Carbon Tax will go to build these also if you donate to Blue Sky thru power company the $ goes to build new nuclear plants they say its clean low carbon foot print,Be careful what we wish for

It's too Grimm for a fairy tale.

What have people getting struck by lightning and the tsunami got to do with it?

I think you should build a berm reinforced stone house in the foothills with a really deep basement and a victory garden; be self sufficient. The government keeps proving they can't help anyone unless there is oil under their property.

well parts of the uk used to be volcanic, then we had the ice age, the world has been repetedly hit by famine . parts of egypt have been efected by flooding through history. we have only been tracking weather , tempratures etc for a short period so with such limited evidance no one can say for sure
